The Acorns to Oaks Story
The Acorns to Oaks digital subscription service is the result of many conversations between two friends, Kerry (me, on the right above) and Julia. We first met over ten years ago when Julia was a teacher to my youngest son in Year One and a tutor to my eldest son, who was in Year Four.
This was how Julia and I discovered we had quite similar views on how different children learn at different times and in different ways, and how a lack of confidence and self-belief can have a negative impact on a child's love of learning. In fact, Julia left teaching in 2016 to focus on tutoring, where she could provide more tailored support to individual children.
It was around this time we took part in a 30-day challenge that involved fitness and mindset activities. It was through this challenge that we discovered a joint love of running and personal development and began spending more time together socially as well through the children. My sons found this strange and it took a while for them to call Julia “Julia” instead of Miss Brand!
In 2020, my youngest son decided he wanted to be home educated. He had just started Year 10 and was deeply unhappy. He wasn't interested in the GCSE subjects available at his school, which made him demotivated and disengaged in class. Again, Julia came to the rescue as a tutor and friend, and we were often chatting about how children can become disheartened which can lead to them losing their confidence both in and out of the classroom.
It was through these discussions that Acorns to Oaks was born - a children's digital subscription service that delivers confidence building, positive mindset and fun educational activities direct to your inbox every month for young learners to enjoy, and continue to grow with positive learning!
